FAQ
Question: Do you have a diagram and measurements of the bolt-hole pattern available?
Answer: The base plate measurements are in the link on the left hand side of the home page… Download the PDF so you can print it.
Question: How do I maintain my Ozhitch?
Answer:Maintenance is simple, you can use any grease you like as the joints are only slow moving and no heat involved. Under very dusty conditions a couple of pumps on the grease gun every 1000km of dusty roads or so in the main body and the vertical bolt that holds in the universal joint. This just pumps out the dusty grease in the ends of the joints and refreshes with clean grease. The pin can also be luricated by using silicone spray even though there is a grease nipple. The reason I suggest silicone spray is grease will collect a lot of dust and then it dries up making it gluggy and hard to put the pin in and out. Silicone is really easy to just wipe of and spray a bit more on to make it slide easily. Use grease if you prefer.
Question: Should I buy the Galvanised or the Zinc Ozhitch?
Answer:When choosing a hitch it is somewhat depending on your use. If you are going to do a lot of beach work I suggest a Galvanised unit or also if you live by the sea. Salt air will cause faster corrosion. Galvanising is a superior corrosion protection. The Zinc unit is more suitable for painting if you require to colour code to suit your trailer. The zinc is also quite good at rust prevention but does need a little more care. I suggest with either of the units that to keep in top visual condition you can spray a little WD40 or lanolin oil on them to keep them looking good, however not needed. All that said both hitches are exactly the same except for the coatings.
Question: What is the hitch like in terms of ‘rattle’ suppression (ie: the noise of movement between the trailer and the car)? A pet hate is the rattle and noise from a trailer hitch with too much movement (I’m one of those people who likes to screw down a traditional ball hitch to get rid of the excessive movement!).
Answer: With regards the rattle….None. Very rattle proof. All touching surfaces are lined with high Quality bushing, so no metal to metal contact = no rattles.
Question: Will the OzHitch fit the Hayman Reese level rider units?
Answer:We are working on an adapter and it will be available for sale on the website very soon.
Question: I have a Cameron Camper, and now a 150 Prado with the huge barn door!!! I’m looking for a new trailer hitch, but have the problem of height, because of Prado door. What are the dimensions of the OzHitch?
Answer:If you want the bolt pattern it’s here. The section that attaches to the tow tongue is 65 mm from the tow tongue up in height. Overall at the highest point on the top of the large bolt on the universal section on the trailer side is 98mm from the tow tongue up.
Question: What is the Max height of the unit?
Answer:98mm Max from the base plate to highest point.
Question: Is there a bolt-on and a weld-on version?
Answer:Both same, its cast “steel” so the same unit can be welded or bolted.
Question: Does the handbrake have the ratchet on it?
Answer:Yes the ratchet is part of the unit. Have a look in the accessories section you will see the handbrake.
